LO Is Getting Challenging...where did my sweet muffin go?

I have no idea what has happened. But, over the past 2/3 weeks my daughter has transformed into something..and I don't know what that something is. She screams at me...like a frustrated squawk. Especially when things don't go fast enough. She will not take a good nap, which results in an overtired baby. She woke up this am at 5:50. Took a whopping 40 min nap at 9, and is refusing to go down. I even tried nursing her to sleep. Didn't work. I finally just put her in her crib, walked out, and closed the door. She needs a good nap. She just finally went to sleep after screaming for a bit. I just don't know what to do. Is this defiant behavior normal? It's like she just has a temper/attitude. Is this something that I should be expecting or do I just have a very challenging child on my hands?

I've been taking care of children for 14 years, and it's like my mind has been swiped clean. I don't know what to do. :-(

  • Munchkin has had more of a temper lately. He'll shriek if he doesn't get his way, bite out of frustration, and he'll go limp if he doesn't want to be picked up. I think it's pretty normal since they're learning to assert their independence.

  • Add us to the attitude group.  L gets mad when he doesn't get his way or I tell him no.  He gets frustrated when he wants something but I don't know what he wants.  He has been sleeping beautifully at night, but his naps have take a huge turn for the worse in the last few days.  I feel like it is all part of a developmental change going on for our wee little ones!

  • DS's first (and still favorite) word was "NO!"  So yeah, they are getting opinionated at this age.  He is still a lot easier than my 3.5 year old, though.

  • She's learning that she can voice her likes and dislikes.  It's all a part of her huge learning curve.  I don't think there is anything you can do other than love her unconditionally. :)

Fwiw, I think children act totally different with caregivers/dcp's than they do with their own parents.  They just somehow know.

  • I think there is another Wonder Week that hits around this time. At least that is what I'm telling myself so that there is hope for things changing!
  • Add us to the attitude list! He's not suppose to have remotes because he somehow manages to change all the settings. Well he's tall enough to reach the remotes and he'll take one and start walking really, really fast. I'll chase after him and he'll stop and throw it at me! Or he randomly grabs my hair and starts pulling like crazy!!! He's also in the phase of shaking his head no...

Funny... I don't remember writing this about my DD... but it sure sounds like I did.
