Hi ladies,
I lurk here often and post once a year when I'm about to have another baby lol. We are having a girl and I've been researching the name DH and I have fallen in love with and see that it could go either way for boy or girl. tell me what you think...
Hollis
Please go easy on me!
Re: Ok...my yearly post...
I much prefer it for a boy.
In terms of associations, for me, Hollis is a not so nice area in Queens, NY, so I get the same gut reaction that I get when people name their kids Trenton.

I've heard it before in that it's not brand new to me, but it "came into my life" recently when an old friend of mine on facebook announced a couple of weeks ago that she is having a boy this summer and his name will be Hollis. I think it can go both ways... not sure if it's "traditionally" a boy or girl name. It's English, I believe. I like it for either, and leaning towards liking it more for a girl.

I don't love Hollis because the first three things I think of are:
- Hollis, Queens
- Hollister, CA
- The Hollister clothing company
and none of those things/places are things I'd want associated with my name.
It just sounds really masculine, sorry.
How about Holly?

I'm crazy in LOVE with this name!
I think girl because I know two, but have heard other people on this board think it's a boy name.
Love the name and Congratulations!
P.S. there are a lot of names that double as cities that are actually names so don't let that change your mind. Example: Mason is a druggy/slacker county in Washington state but it's still a popular name for some weird reason.
P.P.S. No offence intended for the following: People named or related to a Mason, Druggies or slackers.
Lol!! Ur funny! Thank you
It's a great name! Far superior to Holly, in my opinion.
Good luck!
