IDK if ive ever introduced myself, but im Leslie, 36 and pregnant with #2 due 8/26. My Dr is sending to a high risk Dr, I guess because of my age. My Dr wasnt very clear as to WHY....thats a whole different post. Anyways, im measuring at 12wks, instead of 11wks....so when I go, assuming ill be measuring at 13wks - will they be able to tell the gender? Or is it still too early?
Re: what are the odds?
I went to the high risk OB for my NT scan and my anatomy scan, but to my regular doctor for everything else.
The ultrasound tech made an educated guess on sex based on the NT exam, which was at 12 or so weeks, that I was having a boy. This was confirmed by the results of my MaterniT21 test a week later.

You MIGHT be able to get a guess on the sex at 13 weeks, but you won't get anything definite until you either do a blood test like the MaterniT21/Verifi/Harmony or the anatomy scan at 20 weeks.
I would ask why you are being sent to a high-risk OB. "Over 35" by itself is really not a valid reason. I am almost 42 and I am seeing a midwife.
Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
This pregnancy and my 1st I have been over 35. I also have a different OB this time. Both OB's have sent me to a high risk dr for both the NT scan I had with my 1st and the anatomy scans.
I personally like the arrangement. I get immediate feedback from the doctor as he/she is doing the scan and I don't have to make another appointment if a problem arises, b/c I am right there with the specialist I would need. Whereas with the more routine scans I've had at my OB's office a tech does the scan and she can tell me practically nothing...I have to wait until I see my Dr for the results.
They can try to guess the sex by u/s at 13 weeks, but there is a larger margin of error. Best of luck!

My Chart
Not the OP, but it is just standard practice for my OB Group to send all AMA patients to the high-risk OB for the NT scan and anatomy scan. I have no other issues/indications aside from age (over 35) but had to go with both of my pregnancies.
The Dr wasnt available to ask why I was being sent. Talk about frustrating. The MA ran down the hall and gave me my slip of paper with my appt info on it.
However, when I got to the high risk Dr....the intake nurse explained everything. She was so nice and pleasant. She explained it was only the 1st trimester screening and that I will continue to see my Dr unless something goes wrong.
And btw, the US tech wouldnt even guess the gender...simply said "too early."
