I am planning to switch to cloth once we get moved to the new place. I never considered it before because I had to walk outside and down two flights of stairs to do laundry and I could barely keep up with what we had. Now, that is not an issue and I want to switch. DH is on board but is pretty much leaving the diaper picking, ordering etc. to me, which is fine.
So, at 16(ish) months, how many diapers are your LOs using a day?
Do you have a preferred brand?
Do you have a brand or style you absolutely despise?
Supplies wise, what do you have?
Any other awesome CD advice for me?

So, at 16(ish) months, how many diapers are your LOs using a day? Lily uses about 5 diapers during the day and we use a Seventh Generation sposie over night (but I'm looking into a good night time solution so we can stop doing that). She's never been one to fuss about being wet and is only starting to complain about poopy diapers now, so I mostly go by time and change her every 3ish hours.
Do you have a preferred brand? I really like our Kawaiis, and they're great value. I like BumGenius, but think they're overpriced. FuzziBunz work well for us now, but didn't in the early days. And BumCheeks are ridiculously cute, but don't last long (I only use them when I know she's going to need a change in 1-2 hours) and I don't think they'll work when she's much bigger.
Do you have a brand or style you absolutely despise? I really don't like our Blueberries. They are for emergencies only.
Supplies wise, what do you have? We have about 3 dozen diapers and about a dozen extra inserts (which we don't use anymore, but they used to be handy for double stuffing in the morning when she peed a lot). We have a step-on garbage can and 2 Bummis pail liners that get tossed in the wash with the diapers. We use cloth wipes that are just cheap washcloths and a spray bottle of plain water. We have a wet-dry bag for the diaper bag, and Nellie's laundry detergent. We hang them inside to dry, but I'd love to be able to do it outside in summer when we buy our own place. And we have a diaper sprayer attached to the toilet (and a small plastic basket to transport the poopy diapers back and forth to the toilet).
Any other awesome CD advice for me? Check out the CD board's FAQ and some blogs like the cloth diaper whisperer and eco-friendly family. If you don't have hard water, you can make your own diaper detergent that's super easy and cheap (recipe is on eco-friendly family). If there's a CD store near you, go check them out in person and ask for advice/help from the people who work there. Good luck! I'm sure you're gonna love CDing!

We have fallen off the CD wagon for like 6 mos but I am hoping to get back on very soon. We have a ton of Kawaii's and also a good supply of prefolds and covers. I am thinking of going back to a trifold PF and cover during the day and then a double stuffed Kawaii for bedtime.
We like our Kawaii's just fine, but I don't really love the inserts. I would like to eventually switch to all natural fibers - bamboo, hemp, etc. We have 24 Kawaii's and I think 2 dozen PF's and like 10 covers (I went a little crazy with the one size covers when I did my initial shopping).
Get some of these for poopy diapers - so much easier to deal with. https://www.amazon.com/Bummis-BL-L-Bio-Soft-Liner-Large/dp/B0025YWL4W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1360268630&sr=8-2&keywords=cloth+diaper+liners
We also use coconut oil for diaper rashes when she wears cloth.
Get 2 good large sized wetbags so you can have one in the wash and one in the pail.
What detergent are you planning to get? We use the dye and scent free Dropps but are almost out of them and I might switch to Country Save though.
Woohoo for late starters! There's gobs of information out there but most is not directed for those starting later in the game. I just bid and won on ebay 3kawaii overnight heavy wetter diapers for pretty cheap. I have an idea of what I want but I really want to hear what other moms with our age babies are doing and what's working. I would never attempt it if I wasn't a SAHM or didn't have my washer close. I feel the same way about saving for baby#2 when the time comes! Now we just need the Oct 11 CD's to chime in and share their knowledge!
You are supposed to keep them in a dry pail but even though I was washing every other day, SO could smell a slight smell from the pail....even though I would air it outside while the diapers were washing. It starting smelling a little in her room. So I took our pail, which is a really tall bucket, and put it outside on our back porch where nobody goes. Gator's room is by the back door so I change her, swish if necessary, and dump in the pail outside. And I stopped putting the vented top on the pail so it is completely open and fresh air can get to it. It works out perfect for us.
DD goes through 6-8 diapers a day.
I prefer Kawaii pockets stuffed with a cotton prefold or flip insert. I also like my bum genius and fuzzi bunz.
I despise my one Itti Bitti Tutu, it does not fit DD right and always gives her plumbers crack.
I have a bunch of cloth wipes, pockets (30 26 ish), prefolds, 3 medium-size planet-wise wetbags for daycare and 2 large hanging wet/dry bags for dirty diapers.
I use Tide laundry detergent and Rockin' Green interchangeably. I dry all the inserts and prefolds on high in the dryer and then throw the covers in on low for 10 min or so.
I also use fitteds and wool pants at night.
We love g-diapers stuffed with prefolds or g-diaper cloth liners for day time and Mothersease fitteds with covers or bumGenius pockets double stuffed for night time.
When we were first starting I thought we would love pockets but the g-diapers are so much more convient and just as easy. We can use disposable inserts if we are traveling and we can reuse the covers for a number of changes because of the 3 layer system.
For accessorys we have 2 zippered wet bags for the diaper bag, a step trashcan with 2 pail liners for dirty diapers, a diaper sprayer attached to the toilet for poopy diapers, a bunch of cheap wash cloths we use for wipes and a wipe warmer we use to store them in with water.
We have never had a poop blowout and only a very limited number of wet leaks (like 6 or 7 in the last 15 months)
I use at least 2 inserts per diaper. We also use coconut oil which has done wonders for H, and we haven't had a single rash since we started using this oil. I use tide powder for detergent. We don't have a diaper sprayer because we didn't start cloth diapering until H was 1 so the poop was plopable then, but we will be getting a diaper sprayer for the 2nd baby.
I recommend looking at diaperswappers.com to start a stash. I bought all of our diapers and inserts used for a fraction of the price they would have been new.
