help with naps/sleep

My girls are 6.5 months old and still do not sleep through the night. They eat at 10 and then are up again between 3-4 to eat again.

Also they were sort of taking naps at the same time and for the last few days, they have been not so good about that.Meaning one wakes up the other falls asleep and so on.

How do I get them back on track?Any tips for getting them to STTN? I

Any advice would be great.

Re: help with naps/sleep

  • I guess I don't really have any advice since ours are on this EXACT schedule (sigh!) Are you waking them up to eat at 10?  We are and I've toyed with the idea of dropping that feeding to see if they just go back to one MOTN feeding at, say 1 or 2.  That way we can go to bed whenever we want and just get up once at 1 instead of 4:30 then hoping eventually they drop that feeding. I am too scared to try it though haha.   For naps I have had pretty good luck just laying the babies down in their rooms at the same time (it is dark, white noise, etc.) one of them usually cries (the more or less tired one, not sure really?) but they do both go to sleep.  I have also started using the swing again for my not-so-great sleeper and that has cut down a lot of his fussing at nap time.  Good luck mama!  It is much better than the newborn days but I do sometimes wonder if I'll ever get a full night's sleep again! :)

  • Many babies are not ready to sttn at 6.5 months. I didn't drop the boys' overnight feeding until they were around 9 months. They were ebf so they needed to eat more often.

I don't have any advice as we had plenty of sleep issues, but just because someone else's babies sttn doesn't necessarily mean that yours are ready.

  • Keep track of every bottle and time that they eat over the course of a few days.  Total up the amount they eat in a 24 hour period.  Then map it out and see if you can get those ounces into them during the daytime hours.  In the beginning, this meant some cluster feeding in the evenings and upping their ounces per bottle little by little.  Honestly, I think it was a week or so and my girls were greatly extending their sleep at night.  It makes sense.  There is a certain amount they need to consume every 24 hours, just try to make it happen during the day.

As far as naps, are all of your days generally consistent?  Same rhythm?  Same wake up time?  Same general nap times?  Are you seeing their nap cues and getting them down awake but drowsy?  Are they overtired?
