What time a day is best to start their first trial of feeding food? Because don't you have to monitor If they're allergic so is Morning/afternoon time a good time? Because if you do it in the evening and they go to bed, this could be an issue?
I usually start new foods in the morning about an hour after his first bottle for the reasons you said: to monitor if he's allergic. We haven't noticed any allergies so far, but some foods do seem to make him a little constipated and/or gassy. If I notice he's having some gas pains, I give him a little bit of apple-prune juice with water (per the pedi) or some gas drops.
I do it in the evening, usually when we eat supper LO eats some solid food too. But that's because I work full-time and I'd rather it be me giving new foods instead of daycare. I think morning would be preferable.
I'm not too worried about allergies, since they are rare in both my and DH's families. (The only person I know of out of both our families that has any food allergies is my dad, and his is weird, he's allergic to melons i.e. watermelon and cantaloupe.)
Right now LO is getting oatmeal with his 2nd bottle of the day. I'm getting ready to add a 2nd feeding in the evenings. His morning feedings have been going well. He's started to wake MOTN (3-4am) when his last bottle is at 7:30 pm. I hope it will keep him full longer at night. I haven't introduced anything other than oatmeal at this point but when I do I'll probally do it early in the day rather than at night just to see how he reacts so that hopefully it won't disrupt his sleep.
I started in the evening because as a working mom, that is when I had time to feed DD. I gave her dinner about 90 min before bedtime. Inbetween that was her bath, book, etc.
