Birth control???

My doctor has suggested I take a Norethindrone product as birth control. I am currently pumping and developing my supply for my little man who was born 6 weeks ago at 27 weeks. I'm concerned about the effects on breast milk. My doc says it will be fine but everything I read warns about the meds being transferred through breast milk. Anyone have experience with this type of BC?

Re: Birth control???

  • This is the kind of BC they prescribe when you're bfing/pumping, because it doesn't have estrogen. I took it after DD was born and am still taking now after DS.

ETA: here's a link about it.

  • As PP said, this is the birth control that is usually prescribed to women who are breastfeeding/pumping. It only contains norethindrone--also known as the mini-pill.

I actually had to go on the combination birth control (with the estrogen) because of my PCOS and hormone levels, and it didn't affect my supply or my baby.  The stuff you read about meds being transferred would be the estrogen in the combination products.
