Hello!
I posted this in 2u2 but thought I would post it here also......
I just had a baby 10 weeks ago. DH and I are deciding if we want to try for 2 in a few months or wait several years. What is the age gap between your kids? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

I'm currently pregnant with #2, and they will be about 14.5 months apart.  I can't answer your questions based on experience yet, but can tell you that our choice was made based on knowing we wanted 2 kids, and that time was not on my side (I'll turn 40 at 15w2d pregnant).

Personally, I think the first year with a second one will be difficult regardless of when you have them, but am hopeful that after that time period, they will be close and play well with each other, which is worth its weight in gold.  I also like that growing up they will be able to do a lot of the same things around the same time.  I was 5 years younger than my sister (not by choice, just took that long to make me), and there was a noticeable difference in what we were able/allowed to do.

I'm not sure I'd have made the choice to have them less than 2 years apart, were it not for my age, but now that I'm about to be in that position, I'm very optimistic, especially since we were blessed with a wonderful DD who has a great personality, rarely fusses, plays pretty independently (with supervision), and has been STTN since 6.5 weeks.  So long as she continues to be adaptable and doesn't regress too badly when #2 arrives, I think we'll be just fine, aside from the usual newborn parental issues, like lack of sleep.

1 & 2 is 1 year and 20 days

2 & 3 is 2 1/2 years.

We decided to start trying for #2 when DD turned 1. Plans had to be put on hold though when DH deployed. Now I have to let go of my plan of 2u2 as our kids will be closer to 3 years apart.

Mine will be around 21 months. My brother and I were 3.5 years and that was too big of a gap for me. DH and his brother were 18 months and were good friends growing up. I hope these boys are good friends too!

My kids are just over 2 1/2 years apart. I think the age gap is pretty perfect - S knows how to do a lot of things for herself, she's potty trained and sleeping at night, and she's good at following directions and understanding that it's not always about her. They're still close enough in age that they will (hopefully) be friends when they're older, but not so close that they'll ever really be competing against one another in school or anything.

 

i would agree with this. I have three kids all about 2.5 years apart.
