I need help here. DD has the worst rash ever. It is bright red and warm to touch all over her diaper area. One little part is even raw! I feel like an awful mommy. She is in a natural sposie with CJs tonight. I think the culprit may be ammonia but they don't really smell that bad out of wash, just a whiff of CJs. I will strip but maybe I need to add something to it? I have had the same soap and wash routine and havent added anything new. I do laundry EOD. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: Worst rash ever!
When DS had a diaper rash that wouldn't go away, we finally got success using Grandma El's at night with Huggies Pure & Natural, and CJ's during the day with cloth. Grovia Magic Stick in the diaper bag.
Grandma El's is really good stuff -- it protects but also lets the skin breathe. I know it's supposed to be CD safe but I wanted to be on the safe side so I used sposies with it. Huggies Pure & Natural made a difference -- we also used regular Pampers, Huggies, 7th Gen and Earth's Best, and he didn't clear up until we switched to the hypoallergenic sposies.
He really didn't like Earth's Best. The crystals would heat up when he peed and I think the heat made his rash hurt worse. That, and CA Baby diaper cream made him cry/scream in pain.
Good luck stripping your diapers. Can't hurt!
Diaper free time is one of the best things you can do for a bad rash. DD had a bad reoccorring rash a few months ago and I could tell a big difference from day to day when we did diaper free time and when we didn't. Letting her bum air out every day will definitely help. If it's sunny where you live, stick her bum in the sun, even if it's just through the window. The uv rays will sanitize any bacteria. We also used A&D during the day with a fleece and disposable liner, and then Burt's Bees with a spossie at night. Not ideal, but it really helped
I would strip the diapers and then rinse, rinse, rinse. Sanitizing with GFSE in the wash couldn't hurt either. You could also try boiling your inserts to get rid of any detergent buildup.
