Always use milk with cereal?

I'm new to this board so sorry if a similar question has been asked recently!  We started our twins on oatmeal a few days ago and will be moving to sweet potatoes next. I freaked out when I realized how much milk was needed to soften the cereal. Pumped milk is very hard to come by in our household since I am feeding 2 babies. I'd like to combine the oatmeal with the sweet potatoes. Is there any problem with doing this on a regular basis? There's no way I can possibly keep up with pumping enough BM for the cereal; I already pump several times a day to supplement the milk I pump when I work so they have enough on the day I'm gone. TIA!

  • you can do that. the only thing is that with the additional fiber, they may poop more (frequently and quantity). You could also use formula or I use water in DS's cereal.

  • You can just use water, or formula if you want the added nutrition.

  • I've used water, breast milk, or formula. I sometimes use oatmeal as a thickener for purees too.

  • I use pumped BM in my DS's cereal mixed with fruit or veggie.  You can also use water.

this is what I do too. If I have some watery looking BM, I might use that but often I use water. If my pures are runny, I use oatmeal to thicken them up. No needful use BM!

  • I use water for cereal, but I make my own on the stove.

  • You can just use water. I vary, if I have time to pump I'll use milk. If not I use water. I use water a lot because even if I defrost pumped milk if I use it in my food I can't freeze the food (since that'd be re-freezing the milk). If I use water no problem freezing the baby food.
