Looking for a progressive OB

My current OB is an older man who is very old school in his practice. Also, he is VERY Catholic, which is fine, however it does seem to affect his medical recommendations.

He does not screen for any genetic maladies or for markers of chromosomal defects and says this is because he doesn't think parents should know ahead of time, in case they were to terminate. He also downplays all of my questions and concerns regarding diet, hair coloring, exercise....granted I'm a first time mom so I have a lot of questions, but I don't feel like I am getting the answers I am looking for....the main answer to all my questions has been "just eat healthy" or "people always worry about that stuff, but worrying doesn't do anything."

I am looking for an OB who is more progressive and utilizes the most current techniques and tests. Additionally, I would love to find one who can recommend diet specifics beyond "eat healthy"

Does anyone have a doc in Dallas they would reco for these traits?

Re: Looking for a progressive OB

  • I see Dr. Ann Woodbridge at Dallas Presby- She delivered DD in 2009 and is also delivering this LO due in the next few weeks. She recommends all screenings, we declined some of them since we didn't fall into any risk categories but she explained all of the information and gave us her honest opinions when it came down to it. She was pretty hard core my first pregnancy, a little more lenient this time around but it's because I've been through it before. With DD, she was on me about my weight/activity level (I gained more than I should have and didn't exercise), told me which foods to avoid, recommended a gestational diabetes type diet even though I didn't have GD because it was a healthier way to eat, addressed getting my hair/nails done, and called it like it was. I like that in a physician, I don't want someone making me feel good about myself, I want to know the facts and my options.

  • Thank you so much, @TMWarren85!! That is exactly what I am looking for in an OB. I'll reach out to her.
  •  I recommend my OB. She is great and her staff is very helpful. I've recommended her to several people and were satisfied. She is located in downtown dallas in the tom landry building and her practice is affiliated with baylor hospital. Her name is Dr. Sandra Brother and she shares a practice with 2 other Dr.'s who are also very good.
  • I see Dr Keith Grisham in Plano, he delivers at Plano Presby. He is young early 40s and very open minded.
