16 month old twins have RSV

Thank you for all that posted about my girls congestion and promping up the mattress. I will try tonight. They were diagnosed with RSV yesterday. This is horrible. Anyone have any encouraging words about this horrible virus? How long does it last? I am dying over here in Texas. Thanks so much!

  • It sucks,I am sorry. DD had it at 12 months and it was awful, it lasted at least 10 days and it got worse before it got better. Humidifier, saline and suction, suction, suction.

  • DS had RSV when he was 3 mos old. It sucks to say the least but just hang in there and it will eventually pass. DH was on a nebulizer for quite awhile but the actual illness lasted around 7-10 days. Just keep an eye on your LOs and if they appear to sound extremely wheezy or they are breathing hard then take them back to the Dr immediately as it may be an indicator that they have bronchiolitis or pneumonia. Good luck to you all.

DD had RSV in December.  I can't recall the duration but here are some things I learned:

    1.  RSV can lead to ear infections.  My Pedi said it was very typical.  So be on the lookout.  We had a fever spike and some inconsolable crying one night AFTER she was diagnosed with RSV and that's when I knew something else was up.

    2.  RSV can morph into Bronchiolitis or Bronchiolitis/Pneumonia (DD had this).  We ended up needing a nebulizer and used Pulmicort and Albuterol.  Like PP said, be on the lookout for wheezing or crackling in the chest.

    3.  Let the hot steamy shower run for 10 - 15 min with the door closed before you fill up the bathtub.  The best you can do is keep sucking out the snot (Nose Frida), use saline spray, keep the humidifier on, invest in some boogie wipes, and make them as comfy as possible.

    Glad you got some answers!
