Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Nap times

DS sleeps from about 11:30 pm to 4 or 5 am, eats, goes back down for another 3 or so hours, eats, and sometimes I can put him back down for another 2 hours. He does not, however, sleep during the day longer than 15-20 minutes, if at all. Some days he will take two 15 minute naps. He'll be 2 months old on Monday.

Should I be enforcing longer nap times? I leave him unswaddled during the day naps, which I assume is what accounts for the short duration. Should I swaddle him so he'll nap for at least an hour or two?

Re: Nap times

  • I found that sometimes swaddling helps and sometimes not.  Sounds like your DS is getting the majority of his sleep time at night, so he probably isn't likely to take long naps.  That would be a lot of sleep.  My DD is the same way.  I try to remember to be thankful that she sleeps so good at night when I"m at my wits' end during the day due to the short naps.

  • You could try swaddling. My LO sleeps unswaddled or with a Velcro swaddle blanket up to her waist at night. But her day naps are supervised so I loosely swaddle her in a big fluffy blanket and she loves it. She sleeps 2.5-3.5h at a time at night and 1.5 -3h at a time during the day

  • I'd definitely swaddle for naps.  DS takes much longer naps if swaddled.  At 2 months, your LO should be getting 15h of sleep in 24hrs
