C-sections

Another c section

Hi I'm from the July board but I was wanting to pop here and snoop around, I had an emergancy c section with my son and my doctor and I decided that another c section would be a good idea this time around. So anyways I was out cold with my 1st csection so I'm kinda nervious about this one, I will be awake this time. I'm just kind of curious what to exspect? Will I feel it? Dose it hurt at all? Ect ..

Re: Another c section

  • I had a scheduled c/s with DS and will with this baby as well. My hospital does a spinal block epidural, so I felt nothing but pressure which was uncomfortable but not painful. For me the most painful part was the IV they put in while I was waiting for my c/s.

I think the worst part was the itching after. I had been warned about the shakes, but not how crazy bad I would it, and the benedryl they gave did nothing to help.

Does your hospital offer a c section prep class? We took one the first time and found it very helpful in terms of knowing what to expect.

  • I've had 2 scheduled csections and neither were painful. I felt some pressure and I could tell people were moving around behind the drape. With both my csections, I had the shakes afterward and I had terrible itching from the dura morph. It was a great experience and if I have a third, I'll do it again.
  • Much like one of the pp's, I had an emergency c-section last Monday after pushing for a couple of hours only to find out he was stuck which was causing his heart rate to drop and blood pressure to keep shooting up. No pain at all, I actually felt quite wonderful (probably since the contractions were gone!) and was talking through the whole thing. All I could feel was lots of pulling and tugging. IMO, the maintenance afterwards was more uncomfortable than the actual birth. I had a smooth recovery, but as others have mentioned the itchiness is aweful! I actually still have scrapes on my back. I had the shakes as well. Also I was on Magnesium for my blood pressure, which caused me to feel HOT! I kept asking people to turn the temp. down over and over again. The incision will be sore for a while, and you will most likely have minor cramping from everything getting back where it should be.

The shakes were awful!!!  My jaw hurt sooo bad after my surgery because it just kept chattering up and down and I couldn't stop myself from shaking.  They did give me medicin while I was being stitched up and that did help, but I just remember how sore my jaw was after.  Honestly, I think that was the worst part!
