Seven Sling

Ok so I just read that slings can be deadly and now I'm freaked because I got a free one from seven sling from a Motherhood promo code. What's the real deal on these? I'm not using it if its dangerous.

Some ladies have reported poor quality stitching, which could be very dangerous if it comes unstitched while using it. Use your best judgement.  You will know if it is unsafe.

Slings in general can be an issue with newborns because they can cause suffocation from improper positioning.  Because the little ones don't have head and neck control they can slump in the sling and restrict their airway.  There's also concerns over potential falls.  Bottom line is you have to know how to use the product safely and understand what causes injuries or deaths.  This issue isn't unique to slings. You also have to be careful when positioning newborns in their carseats or any carrier like Ergo or Moby to make sure that their little chins don't rest on their chest which can impair their airway.

i would avoid seven sling in general because i've heard they have pretty shoddy quality. 

also, definitely avoid a bag sling. just about everything is wrong with those things. improper positioning of the baby, you have fabric up at the baby's face, and you can't even really see your baby. they're terrible. this is an example of a bag sling:

i had a ring sling that i absolutely loved from sakura bloom.  none of the problems i listed above.

All of this. I prefer a wrap for the newborn stage, especially because I can feel LOs breathing through the wrap.

Thank you everyone! I think I'll just find something else as a carrier like a wrap that was suggested and repurpose this as nursing cover or burp cloths. Thanks!
