Pre E mommas, needing some advice?

LAst week I was sent to L&D for HIgh BP, I was discharged and told to do the 24 he urine test.  I had a follow up today and was told I'm borderline PRe E, my BP is elevated, Protein in my urine and I'm starting to swell.  I will be 35 weeks Saturday, so I'm praying I can hold out till baby is term.  For those who've had it, what was your situation, what did try do to monitor it, what were your levels, when did you deliver and were you induced or c-section?  I'm just trying to prepare myself.

Re: Pre E mommas, needing some advice?

  • sorry to hear that, hopefully your LO will stick it out until the end. I went in at 29 weeks with swelling, high bp 218/106 and headaches. I had severe pre-eclampsia and toxemia. I was taken up to the ICU for monitoring and put on a magnesium drip. After about an hour I was given the shot for DS lungs and told they were going to lifelight me to a hospital with platelettes in case I needed a blood transfusion during my c-section.. I delivered DS that night at the University of Utah via c-section. DS was in the nicu for about two months. I was told if I had waited to go to the Dr. one more day I would not have woken up in the morning. I am glad you caught it early, and wish you an uneventful fewweeks.

  • Hope they can keep it under control until you reach term. Mine was a sudden onset of hellp syndrome. Went to my normal ob appointment everything was normal, ended up in the er 4 days later diagnosed with a bad gall bladder, absolutely no symptoms of pree. Followed up with my ob and everything was normal, wasn't showing any signs or symptoms for them to have any suspicion the gall bladder was anything other then a gall bladder going bad. Ended up back in the er for gall bladder related vomiting, my ob admitted me to ld, had a surgical consult and some run of the mill testing, was orginally told I would be kept overnight for observation possible gall bladder removal the following morning and then the test results came in, protein through the roof, already in kidney failure, low platlets, they gave me steroids shots, magnesium to prevent sezuires and transferred me to a different hospital to be induced immediately by a high risk ob because they were not equipped for a 32wker. They gave me something I can't recall the name of to slowly induce me so they had time to get my platlets to a safe level. Once they got them high enough that a vaginal birth would be doable they gave me n epidural, started pitocin and informed me that they would continue giving platlets but I would most likely not survive a c section because they couldn't keep them high enough. 45 mins later I delivered DD vaginally. They kept me on bed rest giving me platlets and monitoring everything for 24hrs before they moved me to recovery. I was in the hospital 4 days total, DD was nicu for 2 months. She's 7 mos actual now and we are both doing great. Hope things go smoothly for you and you can keep Lo cooking.

  • Sounds like they may have caught yours in time. For me things went down like this, went to my 33w appt and then sent immediately to hospital. I got one steriod shot for the baby, put on mag. salfate and later that night my water broke. I ended up having a vaginal birth and she was born at 33w 4d, at 4lbs 10.5 oz and 18 inches long. Spent 13 days in the NICU mainly as a feeder/grower.

I pray that you can make it to term. I would try and put my feet up, drink lots and lots of water and watch your salt intake. Hang in there Mama!

My situation was pretty similar except I was 34 weeks 5 days... Almost identical weight.  We get to bring her home tomorrow from NICU. :)

I hope you can hang in there!  Do drink lots of water and rest (on your left side).  Also, not to scare you, but think about packing a bag for the hospital now.  You might not need it until later but at least you'll be prepared.  I got stuck unexpectedly at the hospital with nothing for a day or two before hubby could get some things for me.  Crossing my fingers for you!!!
