so right before I found out I was preg about 4 weeks in I ate a bowl of Ben and Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. does anyone know if this is safe? I do plan to call my doctor in the morning but need opinions? a little freaked!!
There's no way ice cream makers would risk having real raw eggs in their cookie dough ice cream. I would eat it now, knowing that I'm pregnant, without any worry.
*giggle* It is safe..... they can't sell it to eat as is if there is raw egg in it. Note that packaged raw cookie dough to cook, has a warning that there is raw egg in it and you should not consume raw. Ice cream.... yum. eat.

As others said, cookie dough ice cream (yum!) doesn't contain raw eggs.
But even if you did consume a little raw egg by mistake, it wouldn't be the end of the world. The concern with raw eggs is that they may contain salmonella, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, fever, etc. Salmonella does not directly harm your baby, so long as you stay hydrated and keep your temperature down enough. You would feel the effects 6-72 hours after consuming the contaminated food, so once that amount of time has passed and you're not sick, you can pretty much assume it was not contaminated.
Re: chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream
I don't think that ice cream cookie dough has raw eggs so I'm sure you're fine.
