I want to take a bath so bad...

...but the doctors told me that I have to wait 4-6 weeks until I'm cleared by my OB. I don't remember having this restriction with DS, and I absolutely love my baths. I definitely don't want to introduce any bacteria for infection, but has anyone else heard this? Anyone take a bath before getting "cleared" to do so?

Re: I want to take a bath so bad...

  • I haven't wanted to take one because my tub sucks but my doctor/nurses never told me no baths.

  • I took baths twice a day every day while in the hospital and once a day after that for four weeks.

  • I've taken baths since day 1 and was encouraged to do so by my OB. She said it helps to speed healing and dissolve the stitches.

This. Sitz baths were highly recommended.

This! I specifically asked about baths upon discharge and my OB said they were fine, she just cautioned against soaking for too long b/c it might make the stitches dissolved before they were fully ready to.

  • I was specifically told NOT to take a bath but I had a csection.

  • I was told no baths. I had a vaginal birth with two second degree tears and an episiotomy. I was told to sit in the bath tub in a couple of inches of water to help dissolve stitches but that's it.
  • Did you have a c-section? If so, I'd for sure wait until your doctor gives you the go ahead.

It's standard precaution with any surgery that has an open wound for no baths or swimming for at least 4 weeks.

Nope, I had a vaginal birth but I had 3 tears so I'm guessing that's what they were concerned about.

I ended up just taking a bath with a small amount of water-- enough to get my washcloth and kind of just rinse it over my body. Not the same :-
