Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How cold is too cold?

In your opinion, how cold is too cold for a walk outside?  What do you use as your guideline?

I just purchased the plastic cover for the bassinet stroller and I'm getting sick of being in the house. DD is 5 weeks old and just over 10 pounds.

We went out already a bunch of times using blankets, etc when it was warmer - the weather here is so crazy, we've had 50+ degrees and 17 degree days in the same week.

  • Honestly we go out regardless.  I took both kids for a walk when it was 6 degrees.  My pedi said as long as they are bundled well that it was fine.  I figure babies are good at letting us know when they are uncomfortable, and DS just sleeps the whole time.

  • At the last drs appt, pedi recommended going for a walk in the days following because they forecast milder weather - that was about 40 degrees.  I probably wouldn't go out if it were below 40ish, but like PP said, if baby is bundled you should be good to go.

  • We go out anytime I feel like it but I baby wear her so she's kept really warm up against my body.

I guess I should have mentioned that's what we do too, which I think makes a difference.

  • I live in California, i think the lowest we've gone this year is in the 30's

But I still bundle her up pretty good

I just wouldn't go out if it was looking like you'd be uncomfortable, even bundled up, or that your body would still feel really cold underneath jackets and scarves

If you;re okay bundled, baby really should be fine

  • We don't usually go for walks but when we do it's usually above 20 degrees.

  • We go out 20f or above. I would invest in a microwaveable hot pack you can wrap on a blanket and place on Los feet for the really cold days, we also have a cozy cover over our carrier. He sleeps the whole time and loves his walks.

  • We've taken LO for walks being worn in my coat since she was 5 days old. The first time it was -1C (30F) and sunny, and she was pretty comfortable. I've had her out in my coat as cold as -10C (14F), and she slept the whole time, her nose got a bit cold, but that was all. We had her out once in her car seat on a sleigh, but after 20 min I had to carry her the rest of the way bc she was getting cold. If I waited til above freezing I'd be housebound all winter. I would just try it and see how your LO does.
