Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is this a growth spurt??

DD is the definition of the perfect baby until the last couple days. She'll be 10 weeks tomorrow and the last few days all she has done is cry! Just during the day..at night she's fine. I change her, feed her, play with her, swaddle her, rock her..you name it, I've tried it and she still cries. The only time she seems somewhat pacified is when I'm holding her, but that's not always good enough. I thought maybe her tummy was hurting, so I've tried the mylicon drops and gripe water..it doesn't help. I've been feeding her BM during the day and formula at night. The last couple nights, she's slept 5-6 hour stretches, so I know she'll eat more during the day, but she acts like she's starving to death after a hour or so of eating. I don't know what to do & I don't know how to make her feel better. Has anyone else been going through this? I'm really hoping it's just a stage/growth spurt because I really want my happy baby back. :/ If it is a growth spurt, how long does it last? TIA!

  • No advice here I just wanted to say I'm so jealous that she sleeps 5 to 6 hours a night.

She JUST started this two nights ago! Before that it was like clock work..every 3 hours.

  • My son is only 3 weeks but sounds like the same situation.  From day 1 he's been great.  Only cries when he's hungry or has a wet diaper.  The past couple of days he's been nursing every 20-30 minutes...very fussy too while he's eating.  He usually sleeps for about 4 hour stretches at night and that hasn't changed except now when he wakes to eat he's up for about 2 hours and just wants to be held.  the second i put him down he starts crying. Just hoping its a growth spurt too!
  • This sounds like exactly what we have been going through as well.

I am envious of your 5-6 hour stretches of sleep per night though!  I am looking very forward to that ;)

usually a growth spurt occurs about 3 months and you are a bit off from that.

she's sleeping 5-6 hours at night, so that does mea she has to eat more often during the day.  since normal at this age is about 10 feedings a day, if she's only awake 18 hours, that means she's gonna want to eat less than every 2 hours in order to get enough.

of course your feeding formula does mess up the baby/boob/growth spurt math.  Are you pumping to replace the feedings you give of formula? If not it may have effected your daytime supply a bit if you are going longer than 8 hours at night without nursing or pumping from start of one to start of the next.

and formula is sometimes constipating, is she still pooping as often as she was before? has it changed in hardness or consistency maybe?

growth spurts usually last about 3-4 days with increased frequency of eating, so eating more often and a bit longer usually with not sleeping as much at night.

I never EBF, just EP'd and I'm in the process of stopping that & that's why we started giving her formula at night. Her pooping really hasn't changed. She pooped really good last night, so I don't think she's constipated. All of this is such a guessing game!!
