Sorry, I know this is kinda an old thread. I was looking for baby names as I'm expecting number 2.
My first son is named Tidus. It is of Japanese origin. An Okinawan word meaning "sun". Okinawa is an absolutely gorgeous Japanese island where I lived for 4 years and my son was conceived there.
Just wanted to let people know. Just because you think it looks made up doesn't necessarily mean it is.
See, when you explain it I can accept that it's legit, but 1. I highly doubt the long-ago OP's husband actually knew that and 2. you can forgive us for thinking it's made up or at least ludicrously pop-culture-ish when the first page of Google results for Tidus all has to do with Final Fantasy. I usually Google names before asserting on here they're made up because I don't want to diss something that's merely from a culture I'm not familiar with, but it's really hard to find anything solid on this one.

I actually really like Titus. (and under NO circumstances Tidus. That looks silly.) It's a Biblical name, and that's what I thought of first. I don't know if that sways you one way or another. Anyway, great name!
Re: Tidus or Titus?
Titus is a Biblical name.
Tidus is not a name at all.
Titus. Please don't misspell it.
I don't watch TV, but my immediate association is the Biblical reference.
