Dark green poop. always

My lo is 10.5 weeks and exclusively BF. His poop went through the normal transition from black to yellow with curds then around 5 weeks he got a cold and his poop turned green and foamy. Now, 5.5 weeks later, he STILL has dark green poop. Anyone else? dr. doesnt seem concerned but I am worried about possible foremilk/hindmilk imbalance b/c he doesnt seem to be able to go beyond 2 hours for meals.

  • If you suspect that then start block feeding. So say you BFed with your left boob, offer that one first the next feeding.

  • Yep, sounds like a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. My DS had one and block feeding took care of it in a couple of days. I would switch the breast offered at a feeding every three hours which gave him more of a chance to empty the breast offered and receive more of the hindmilk. It also allowed my supple to regulate. Once the imbalance was taken care of my DS was a much happier baby!

  • When I cut out dairy the dark green poops stopped.

ETA - I still get light green frothy poop when she gets too much foremilk but it's definitely not the same as the dark green mucusy stuff I was seeing for a while.

this is what a friend recommended I try since LO empties each breast at each feeding so I didnt think block feeding would help me any. I could be wrong but since I gave up dairy (and it hasnt been a full week yet) his gas has subsided a good deal so I think I am on the right path. Hoping the poop changes back so I will have some confirmation of my efforts. Dairy free isnt fun. but it will be worth it if it works out. Thanks ladies.
