C-sections

Why am I such a wuss?

I've had a c-section before (a little over 2 years ago).

I'm not afraid of the surgery or recovery afterward.

What am I most afraid of?

The spinal. Why am I being such a wuss about a spinal? I can be cut open while awake, yet the spinal scares the crap out of me. Argh.

Re: Why am I such a wuss?

  • Maybe because you know you'll feel a little something with the spinal??  Once you are numb, you don't feel being cut open....

Strangly, I don't remember getting my epidural, or what it felt like.  I do remember it not being as bad as I had expected!

  • I was TERRIFIED to get a spinal.  The Anesthesiologists promised me it would be no big deal, and I sat there shaking I was so afraid of it.  He was right, I didn't even really feel the prick from the numbing part.  Getting the IV in my hand prior to the C-section was WAY more painful. I remember it hurting way worse than any IV I've ever received & burned really bad.
  • I was in your spot with my last c-section. But mine had to do with the fact I had to get a spinal tap done in April '12 for a meningitis dx and when they did that I was already in pain and it took more than 5 min. and 3 different sticks to get what he needed

When it came time for my c-section spinal I was scared to death but they said it was either that or general anesthesia and I did NOT want to be put under. I was real tense when they went to do it but the nurse who helped started talking to me and I didn't even realize he had done it except for the pressure.

  • Major surgery is scary.  That's just a fact.  It means you are trusting your health and well being to someone else.  I think it's okay to be scared, but don't give in to it.  In the end you will have a lovely baby to raise.  (That's the scary part to me!  How do I protect this little one for the next oh...rest of my life.)
