I went to L&D yesterday b/c I was having some tenderness in my stomach and I just wanted to get checked out. I was hooked up to a monitor for a while and the printout did show that I was having some light contractions. Some were 4-5 mins apart and then some were more sporadic.
I was only a fingertip dilated, 50% effaced and -2 station, so I didn't feel the need to stay at the hospital. They said that I could if I wanted...but I figured I would just end up going home the next day unless I wanted to be induced since I figured there wouldn't be much change.
They also did an ultrasound to check the baby's size and the tech said that she's looks to be a good size, 8 lb 6 oz! I was like uh, how accurate are these readings? She said give or take a pound.....hopefully she's a bit smaller lol. I'm just a bit nervous about pushing out a baby that size!
My dr said that it would probably be a 50/50 c-section possibility...does that seem normal?
I have had a few small contractions since then, but nothing bad or consistent. I'm going to try and do a load of laundry later and maybe vacuum the rug. I really wanted to make banana bread but I don't think our bananas are ripe enough. Hopefully be up and about will help a little.
If she doesn't come on your own I have my induction scheduled for Friday.
Re: Baby Update and Induction Date Set!
Wow. That's crazy that your doc would tell you that you have a 50% chance of having a c/s based on some silly and notoriously inaccurate size estimate. Please do not let that scare you. My nearly nine pounds baby was my easiest delivery, so size definitely doesn't mean you can't push the baby out.
I would be really hesitant to do the induction with that doctor unless there is a serious medical reason for it. If he's already c/s pushy (which it sounds like) an induction could really increase your likelihood for one.
Yeah I'm not sure if he thinks I am smaller and would have trouble delivering vaginally? He's never said anything about it before. I at least want to try delivering and if things don't look like they are going well and a c/s is necessary then so be it.
H said that he saw (hopefully he was right) on the u/s screen that the head circumference was 34 cm, which seems to be normal.
I'm really hoping that I progress a little farther before being induced so that I will hopefully have a lesser chance of a c/s.
