Do people do this anymore? Anyone currently considering it? Seems to be more common now with middle names.
FIL is one of 3 kids. His sister and brother are named after their Mom and Dad with same 1st names. A bit odd b/c you'd think FIL, as the older brother, would have his Dad's name. I don't hear much about women being named after their mothers, even in older generations.
DD1 has the same middle name that I do but more because it is also my grandma's middle name. I wanted to honor her but DH shot down all variations of her first name. If this baby would have been a boy, he would have had DH's middle name.
Re: Naming baby after yourself
We are naming our boy after DH's middle name and his first name might be after his grandpa.
If we would have had a girl she would have had my middle name.

If this LO is a boy, DH wants his name in there somewhere, so we'd likely use his middle name as the baby's middle name... even though I really don't like the name Alan.
If LO was a girl she would have his grandmothers names. One of which is coincidentally my sisters MN.

IT'S A BOY
If LO is a boy, he will have the same middle name as my DH, dad and FIL (we lucked out - they all have the same middle name, so that was a no brainer for us)
If LO is a girl, she will have my maiden name as her middle name.

BFP 8/20/14 EDD 4/27/15 It's a GIRL!!
DS' middle name is my DH's and my father's name. If we go with Grace Carolyn, baby girl's middle name is DH's grandmother name. It does seem to be the trend to use middle names.
I love honoring family with names. My mother named me and my brother after soap opera characters, I'm looking for more meaningful names lol.
If it were a girl we would have made the mn a family name from dh's side
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
I'm giving my daughter my middle name as her middle name. Its very unique and both me and DH love it.
It is SUPER annoying for my FIL DH to have the same name.
When talking to MIL, I've had to say "My ______?" To clarify she got all huffy and said they were both hers. Mmmmkay. Fun.
had to change my sn
Miracle Baby #1 - March 2012
Ds1 middle name is FILs first name and this boy will have my fathers first name as his middle name. Had it beena girl, she would have had my mothers NMR as her middle.
i think it's a great way to honor our parents. Both sets are amazing, positive influences in our lives and I would love it if our kids took after them in some way.

My mother and I share the same middle name. It was a great-grandmother's and a great-aunt's name. My brother has the same first name as my dad but different middle names. My dad remarried and he has another son who also shares his first name and the daughter has her mother's middle name.
My little sister's from my mom's second marriage have middle names to honor both grandfathers. C Jo for Joe and L Paris for Lake Paris. Actually L Paris' first name is a variation of Lake.
LO will have Lake for a MN if LO is a boy. If LO is a girl, they will have the same middle initial as myself but not the same name.
My husband has the same first name as his dad (different middle names so he is technically not a jr.). My H thought the whole thing was confusing growing up, so we are not naming our kid that. We have talked about using his middle name, but that is a little up in the air too.
The plan now is to some how incorporate my grandfather's name- either as first or middle.
If we were to have a girl, she would have had my middle name. It is also my mom's middle name and my great grandmother's first name.

Personally, not my thing. Hubby actually suggested giving a girl my middle name... which is a great name, but it's a bit weird to me. Plus, my dad and his uncle had the exact same name- my mom said my dad nearly had a heart attack at his uncle's funeral with all the signage having his name. FIL and GFIL have the exact same name, and it's done alot on that line of the family, but we're not fans. We're using our grandparents names wherever possible/ names we like. Otherwise we are pulling initials to use where the names aren't our favorite.
Boy will have my maternal grandfather's Hebrew name (FN) and my paternal grandfather's name (MN)
Girl will have ... a first name... (none decided).... and a variation on my paternal grandmother, and Hubby's maternal grandmother's name. Mary/Marie/Maria depending on what flows best with FN/LN.
