November 2012 Moms

Telling my boss.

I graduate in May and have already been offered a job working in the same department (ER) as an NP instead of an RN. I will effectively have a newish boss. He's my boss's boss. How should I explain I will be taking leave again only months after taking my new job?

The thing is I took this current job while I was 31 weeks pregnant with E and now I will be taking this new job at about the same time. I feel bad, but it wasn't planned. I'm going to wait until 13 or 14 weeks even though two of my coworkers already know. They will keep their mouths shut...because you know HIPPA and all that joy.

ADVICE?

Re: Telling my boss.

  • I have no advice, just wanted to say congrats on finishing your NP! Our ER decided to stop hiring NPs, so a lot of my friends had to switch from the acute care program to the FNP program. I'm still debating if I will go back.

  • Thanks I am really excited about it, and I hope I don't have to go back to school again.

Our ER is small. Level 2 trauma 11 bed, so it's hard to hire a large amount of DR.s

I think if we moved down to a more populated area that I would have to get hired in a different field or go back. booo!

  • First congrats on getting your NP degree. I'm a PA and SO is in school right now to get his FNP. we both have worked in the ER. I would recommend telling them soon. It can take a while to find a replacement and to get them credentialed to work at the hospital.
