Getting Baby to Go To Sleep!

These last cople nights have been rough, Baby Jaykob is 8 months now and he wakes up 2-4 times a night. My husband and I have to wake up for work early and we don't know what to do. I don't like the CIO method it breaks my heart hearing him cry (so you all know who the softy is) My husband tells me that we need to let him cry it out so he learns to self sooth. I am willing to try but how long should we let it go on? Help!

  • If you do sleep training, you should pick a method, get the book, and follow it.  It's really important to understand what you're doing and why and to be consistent every night.  We used the Ferber method, the book is called Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems.  Other popular ones on the boards are the Sleep Easy Solution and the No Cry Sleep Solution.  Whatever you do, get the book and be consistent.  It's hard to hear your baby cry but it's a little bit easier when you know exactly what to do and why you're doing it.

  • Our go-to when we have issues is going outside. We do not take the monitor, and are just far enough that we only hear her if she's really crying, not just fussing or that tired cry. We have also found out that if she's over tired and we HAVE to let her cry herself to sleep, it will take 20 minutes for her to do so. It's a hard 20 minutes, but when i KNOW that I have done everything I can for her, she's fed, changed, not hot or cold, humidifier if needed, then all i can do is let her work it out.
