Babies: 6 - 9 Months

7 month old refusing spoon now.

LO has been eating puffs and little finger foods for a few weeks now. Last week she figured out how to feed herself her puffs. (She's not perfect at it but she gets it in her mouth maybe 50/50. The rest of the time it seems to stick to her hand and she forgets about it.) The last couple days she hasn't wanted to eat any baby food from a spoon. All she wants is finger foods. She also takes her bottle fine but I've been trying to incorporate other foods. She doesn't have any teeth either.

Any tips on how to get her to eat her baby food? I've read about making pancakes and putting the baby food in those. I just made some toast and have been giving her little pieces dipped in her fruit purees.

  • I would dice fruits and veggies, or shred chicken and cheese and give it to her. That's awesome that she's moving to finger foods so well.

  • I was concerned that she needed the fruits and veggies. Ha, I didn't know it was just for fun. Is it okay that she is drinking less formula and still not eating her purees?

Some textures still seem to bother her. I just don't want her to miss anything from her diet. She's been crawling for 2 weeks so I figured she would need some more calories to make up for the ones she's burning.

    Thanks!

  • I roast veggies and give my LO those. He can pick them up and because they are so soft, he doesn't need teeth to chew and swallow them. Steamed veggies also work pretty well. I've roasted squash, potato, sweet potato, yams, zucchini, parsnip, and carrots and steamed carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans.

Just let her move to table food totally, then. At 7 months she doesn't need any nutrition from solids, just from formula or breast milk. You said she is FF? How much is she taking a day?

Food before 1 is just for fun! It's practice. I mean given the choice between fruit or veggies and a puff, I'd go for the real food, but a few puffs are fine.

She takes between 22-30. I guess that's still plenty. It just came as a shock cause just a few days ago she could eat a big jar in one sitting no problem and loved it.
