Only wants daddy...

I'm home with the kids all day.  DH is home and gets to see the kids for an hour, maybe, in the morning.  Then the baby is sleeping by the time he gets home and gets half hour with DD before she goes to bed.  Lately everyday has been a struggle with her.  Every word from her mouth when I try to help her is "I want daddy to do it!"  I try to tell her daddy is getting dressed or daddy is taking a shower so he can't help with socks.  She just throws a fit!

And I can't wait for DH to come out of the shower or whatever because we have to go somewhere before he comes out.  It's just annoying she won't let me do ANYTHING when he's home.  I know part of this is from the baby being here and DH spends all his time with DD because I'm still nursing the baby.

Any advice?  I'm going crazy here!

Re: Only wants daddy...

  • It's a phase. I like when my husband is home and she only wants him, it gives me a break, lol

  • A) It's a phase, so try not to let it get to you. If it's something that can wait, let her wait.

    B) Sounds like you two need a big girl date. Try to find a time when someone else can watch the baby for an hour or two and take DD out on a special activity.

  • DD recently went through this phase. I personally treasured every second of it. Not only was it endearing to watch but I was ready for a break.

  • I love the break too, believe me!  But there are things we need to do and go to while DH is still home and she just won't let it go.  I think we need to change our routine a little.  And DH needs a break from DD too.  She's very, um, energetic.

  • DS1 is like this when DH is home. It is always "daddy up, no mommy!" etc etc but he's fine when DH is at work. I only find it difficult when we need to go somewhere/do something and DH is busy (when we're doing chores around the house for example) and I offer to help DS or try to do it myself and he refuses.

It's a phase -- I hope! Ha! I am sometimes successful in getting DS distracted enough with tickling or giggling and get him to do whatever.
