9 wo cough/congestion

This weekend, DD started coughing and sneezing, and is still pretty stuffed up. Her nose isn't running and might be starting to get a little stuffed up, but it's mostly a cough and chest congestion. She doesn't have a fever, and I plan to call the Dr. once they open for advice. From what I've read, there's not a whole lot I can do besides keep her nose clear with a bulb syringe and keep her hydrated.

How did you deal with LO's first cold and cough?

Re: 9 wo cough/congestion

  • I started bringing my dd in the bathroom when showering and keeping the door closed. i did this several times a day then suctioned out her nose. i put a cool mist humidifier in her room at night. it also helped to keep her elevated a little. i was letting her nap in her swing too. in the  beginning she'd almost choke on phlegm if i didn't keep her upright.

  • My LO had a cough/congestion last week, and I ran the humidifier in her room, cleaned her nose out with the bulb and just tried to get her to eat as much as I could! Unfortunately not much you can do for them! Oh and I got some Vicks baby rub and that seemed to help!

  • My pedi recommended saline drops.  They work really well for us.  We put the drops in DD's nose, wait 20 seconds or so, then use the bulb suctioner.

  • my daughter's pedi contributed her sneezing, coughing, and occasional yucky-and-thick sounding congestion to allergies. we live in south tx so that is the obvious first answer to any sneezes, coughs, & congestion combined. She recommended I use 2-3 drops of saline in each nostril, then tilt her back almost upsidedown for 10-15 sec then sit her upright NO SUCTION BULB. Idk why no bulb.... I have also been recommended by other moms to use baby Vicks on the soles of her feet, then socks, then run the hot shower for a few minutes and let her breathe the vapor. hope it helps!
