Stuffy nose at night?

We have noticed this here and there before but last night it was really bad so of course now we are wondering if this is what is keeping DS up at night now.

He is completely fine during the day...but in the middle of the night he sounded so stuffy and all he wants is his pacifier which of course he can't breathe when he has that in because of his nose being so stuffy. He was up from 4:306:30 am today because of this. Yet once he's up for the day the stuffiness goes away. Any ideas? We have a pedi appt Friday and will ask then but I really really just want him to be able to sleep!

  • do you have a humidifier in the room? That really helped our LO.. the heat is so dry in winter

  • I agree with PP, try the cool mist humidifier at night.  Also, I keep DS's crib propped up on one side, I just use two thick books side by side (not on top of each other) it inclines it just a little.

  • definitely humidifier. I have lived with this my whole life, and the humid air helps. It doesn't have to be cranked up high, just a little bit to take the edge off the dryness.

  • Do you live in a cold climate? We are in Michigan and use a vaporizor rather than a cool mist humidifier because DD's room tends to be cold. The vaporizer puts out a warm steam, which makes the room warm & humid. It really helps with her stuffy nose.

Edit: oh, duh,  I see you're in Michigan too!

  • Renee also gets a really stuffy nose at night. It doesn't keep her up though. Like the PPs said maybe you should get a humidifier. Hopefully, he isn't sick!

  • I agree with pp, cool mist humidifier and prop the crib matress a bit. Also, baby saline mist or drops...helped DS tremendously!

  • Thanks girls. We do run a cool most humidifier in his room every night ...yep we are in Michigan!...but that doesn't seem to be doing anything. We have saline drops which we will try. I'm now wondering if he's allergic to his bedding or something since it's only at night when he's in bed for a long time? We don't notice it with his naps. Ugh. He's definitely not sick...he's perfectly fine during the day. Poor kiddo.
