Toddlers: 24 Months+

I haven't posted here in a while, but I need help

My son will be 3 in May. He just discovered how he can get out of his bed. He now will not stay in his bed until I have walked him to his room 5 or more times. Or he will wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning in my room. Any advice? I feel like a have a NB who is not sleeping through the night all over again. Thanks for any help

  • Just walked DS to his room for the third time. Ugh third times a charm maybe. Lets hope!

  • Put a gate at his door

  • I thought about that but I think he would climb over?

  • What does he want when he climbs out of bed? Is it that he wants to be with you?

When DD gets up we let her come into our bed. If that doesn't work for you what if you give him a space to sleep on your floor?

  • DD has a gate at her door. She's never climbed over it. She has pushed it over, but that is only when she's in timeout in her room and shes mad. Otherwise she stands at the gate and calls for me or DH.

  • Bedtime has become ridiculous!  I battled for 2 months.  Now I just lay down with him until he falls asleep and let him get into bed with us in the middle of the night.  We all are getting more sleep that way!?!?

Hes not in a crib, so he just walks to our room. He just wants to be with me I guess. He just stands there with his teddy bear and pillow grinning.

  • Buy a door knob with a lock on it. Install it with the lock facing out. This way you can lock him in at night. Some people think this is cruel, but the crib is to keep them safe in bed. If the crib isn't working, you need to make sure they are safe in their room still. I don't want DS getting up & roaming out in the house by the stairs while we are sleeping.
  • DS gave us trouble one night.  We told him we were taking away his trains and cars for the next day.  The next night, when he started to act up, we asked if he wanted his trains back or not.  That made him think for a second, and he decided that he'd rather go to bed quickly than to not have his trains and cars another day.  He is 2.5.
