Argh...Sippy Cups

Is your LO holding a sippy cup on his or her own and drinking out of it? DS has figured out how to get a little bit of liquid out of them, but when he sees the sippy, he sits there like a little bird with his mouth open waiting for me to feed him. I am trying to get him to be independent with it, but he gulps so much air when I let him do it on his own. I'm just kind of frustrated with the process. How do I help him without making him helpless?

Re: Argh...Sippy Cups

  • DD has an easier time drinking when the cup is full.

  • Does your cup have handles? DD has an easier time drinking from her cup with handles than the one without. Also second PP on filling it to the top.

  • Try a different cup so if your has handles try one without and vice versa.  Our son holds his own bottle so he likes the cup without the handle they just bothered him. You can also encourage him to hold it by placing his hands on cup and doing the motion to show him.  Eventually he should start doing it himself.  Another thing I do when the lil guy wants me to hold it for him.  I'll start holding it for him then slowly lower it then he'll reach up to hold it so he can drink.  Oh and make sure the cup is at least half way full so he doesn't have to til it as much.
