Groupons?

Question... I just bought some (and am pumped about it, I might add), and for those of you who have used them before, did you tell the people you had them before the service or when you paid? I have one for a facial, for hair cut and color, and a 60-minute massage... 

Did you have a good experience or negative one?

I've never been to any of these places! Just read reviews on them before purchasing... I just wasn't sure if I would get slighted if they knew beforehand! But I didn't want them to get irritated if I let them know after... And then try to tack on some fees because, "Oh, this part of the service doesn't apply to that voucher.." or something. =/

In advance.  Have never had any trouble using them.  Just be careful of the expiration and any parameters with them (like any coupon).

It usually says on the Groupon to let the service provider know you're redeeming a Groupon at the time of service. I always do but I always wonder if that affects the level of service.

Both times I have gotten a Groupon, I have let them know. I will say that we used a Groupon for a 5 star Michelin starred restaurant once and the service was excellent.

I know when I used one at a hair place, they had special days reserved for the groupon- Maybe because a certain stylist was doing all the groupons? So if I hadn't let them know, they wouldn't have taken it.

I let them know when I book it. For one salon, it was only good for certain stylists, so that made a difference when I booked.

I have been happy with some of my groupons and not happy with others. I have bought groupons for house cleaning three times and all three times had to get a refund because I could never get the company to call me back to book.

On the other hand, I really love our pictures from The Picture People and I used a groupon for our session. It's kind of hit or miss sometimes.
