Get the heck outta here!!

Ok guys,

How can politely suggest that my husband go and have some personal time? I don't want to insult him or want him to feel that I don't want to spend time with him...but he needs to get out of the house.

He wanted to have people over for the superbowl, but 3 of the 4 toddlers that were going to come all have runny noses and a cough.  Not okay with a 3 week old baby. He balked at this and called me paranoid and now he's super cranky, moping around the house and giving me the silent treatment.

I want him to be able to go watch the superbowl with his friends and I'm totally cool staying here at the house with the baby...but I'm afraid he'll think I'm kicking him out or don't want to spend time with him.

I just want him to be happy...I feel bad for cancelling his initial plans - but our number one job now is to protect this little one.

  • If you are referring specifically to tonight and the Super Bowl, let him know you are sorry that the initial plans aren't going to work, but let him know that he's welcome to go if he wants, but if he wants to stay that is perfectly fine as well.   This way, you've extended the offer, and it is on him to decide and he won't feel forced.

  • What you typed above sounds reasonable to me....just tell him what you told us, if he is dramatic then that sucks, but at least he knows where you stand. My LO is getting colds left and right from daycare....if you can prolong that exposure for a minute longer, do it! It sucks big time!
