Baby Names

Kendall

Just when I thought we had it down to our top 2 for our little girl the name Kendall came up. This is actually an old favorite of mine and DH really likes it. I'm really starting to like it more again especially because it has a similar meaning as my dad's name (Dale) and I think it would be a great way to honor him as he passed 2 years ago. My only concern is it being to common. I feel it's getting more popular as in the school I work at I know of at least 1 Kendall and a Kenley. What are your feelings on it's popularity? and is this the best spelling?

Re: Kendall

  • It's NMS but not bad.

  • I don't think of it as a popular name and I would stick with the traditional spelling of Kendall.  Personally the name is nms, but if you like it, go for it.

  • NMS but don't think it's too popular

  • It's not popular.  I'm not particularly a fan of it, but if you like it then why not?  You could consider Dahlia as another girl's name to honor your father also.
  • I like Kendall and don't think it's really all that popular.

  • Kendall was always a name I liked, but when I brought it up to DH (before we knew we were having a boy) he's like, all I can hear is "Ken Doll".  I still love it though

  • Thanks for the help! I'll have to add it to our list of top contenders. Dahlia is pretty too but DH already vetoed that one.
  • I really liked this name about 10 years ago (and still think it's pretty) but we were going to name a daughter Kennedy and if we'd had two girls, I never would've done that to them lol! Plus I'm a Sarah Michelle Gellar fan and one of her more famous roles was Kendall :).

I still think it's a good name and not too trendy. It's a legitimate K name, so it has that going for it, and as far as the popular names in the same vein, I think Kennedy and Kinley are much more trendy, so you're probably not going to run across a lot of Kendall's in the same grade in school.

  • I'm not a huge fan of Kendall (just NMS), but I don't think it's overly popular.

  • I really like Kendall - I know two Kendalls (both in their twenties) so I have a positive association.

  • I haven't met any Kendalls, but my brother is naming her daughter Kendall (due in May). I don't think it's very popular. I like it.

  • Kendall used to be on my list. I like it and don't know any IRL (well, I used to work with a man with this name...but I don't know any females with it). I don't think it's that popular. The reason I eventually took it off my list is because I keep hearing "Ken Doll" when I say it (just like some other PPs mentioned).
