Cloth Diapering

Talk to me about Travel

Beach vacation?  Cruise?  Resort or hotel stay? Tell me about taking your cloth diapered LO or duo out of town for longer than you'd want to bring them home and wash them.

Re: Talk to me about Travel

  • I bring my prefolds for traveling, just because they take up the least space. I bring 24 prefolds, 5 covers, 3 bamboo inserts to add extra layers at night, and some fleece liners and they all fit in a carry on bag I got with our luggage set. I bring a container of my Tide powder and one large wetbag. That's about it. It's not very complicated, I'm just doing laundry elsewhere... I'd probably use sposies if I didn't have access to laundry services, but that would be the only reason I wouldn't bring my CDs.

  • This is the one place I'm lazy. I traveled with CDs once, and it was such a hassle that I now use sposies with a flip cover over them for blowout protection. When needed, I just wash the flip by hand in the sink.

  • We use disposables when we travel. Especially now that DS is eating solids. I just don't want to deal with the poop while on vacation. When DS was EBF, I would bring cloth with us when we would go somewhere with a washer and dryer. Otherwise, I just don't want to have to worry about it while away.

  • I bring them with me if visiting relatives (so I can do laundry there).  I don't mind doing the dunk and swish in their toilet... but wouldn't want to use public ones for that...

Prefolds are easier to clean.  and they take up less room.  so from now on, that's what's coming with me.

If I had to use disposables (which I will avoid if at all possible) I would definitely bring a few covers to keep it all contained.  'sposies suck.

  • We're planning to use disposables for any travel. I used them with DD1 and DD2 without any problems. I'm switching to cloth to save money since I only work part time now.

  • Has anyone tried the disposable inserts for the flip covers? I've been debating whether they are worth trying or to just buy disposables for travel without laundry access.

I've tried the GroVia disposable inserts. I wouldn't recommend them if LO still has runny or PB poo. Might as well be in a regular sposie. Otherwise they are okay. I'm guessing the Flip disposables are similar?
