Parenting after a Loss

Not PAL: AW! New Car :) PIP!

So, with us expecting baby #2 this summer, (and, DH having gotten into an accident a few weeks ago), we were on the search for a new car!  I have a 2010 Hyundai Sonata, which I like a lot, but we really wanted to get something bigger, so we opted for a Hyundai Santa Fe!  I absolutely LOVE it!! We got the 2012 limited edition, so it has all the fancy bells and whistles (leather, heated seats, high end audio, sun roof, etc)!  My Sonata is just the basic model, so having a car with all the fancy upgrades is so much fun!! We love it!

Only downside.. gas mileage isn't great.. like 23mpg.  Eh, it is what it is.. we were hoping it would be like 24-25, since it's a V6, but we'll settle for 23!  Once baby #2 comes, this will basically just be a family car, and not used for commuting as DH will work from home 2 days/week and I will only work 3 days a week.. so, the 4 days of the week that one of us isn't commuting, the SUV will stay home with us and the kiddos :)

I love, love, love it though!  Drives so nice!!

Here's a pic -- not the greatest shot, but it's freezinggggggg out!  SO, I quick snapped a pic and ran back inside :)

I have a super long commute and my Sonata has almost 90,000 miles on it already!  I can't say enough good things about it -- aside from oil changes and changing tires once so far, we've had no issues!  We are extremely happy with Hyundai thus far, and felt really confident buying another!  The contenders were the Ford Edge and the Mazda CX5.  I also liked the Chevy Traverse, but gas mileage on that was even lower!

And, it is nice getting a new car :)  It makes being a "working Mom" a little easier to handle.. I know if I hadn't been working, we wouldn't have been able to afford something quite this expensive.. and certainly not with any upgrades!  It sort of just made me feel a lot better about where we are right now :)

  • I have a 2008 Santa Fe and I love it. I wish there was a little more leg room in the back because right now it's a little tight in the front seat with how far out our car seat sits but it drives like a dream. I had no problem going from driving my old Nissan Maxima to driving this, I think the Santa Fe steers better and you can see more with the height!

I have a 2008 limited and I love it. Congrats!

This..but AWD as well since we have more ice than snow here in the winter. It's been great and held up well. It only gets 20.5 miles to the gallon on average though, but it could be my driving. Should be perfect for 2U2. :)

::stealing thread for 1 question:: Ladies with 08 Santa Fe's Do you find your headlights don't give great visibility? I think they are pointed down more than out. I thought it was my lights, but I just replaced them and it still seems like I have crappy visibility. Maybe it's just in comparison to dh's infiniti. Tia!!

Mine seem fine compared to DHs BMW and the Civic I had for years.  I've had mine for 4 years & put over 87,000 miles on it (grand total 127K-it was used) since I've owned it with no problems.  Maybe you shoud check with the dealer.

  • Nice!  New cars are so fun!

I would love to get that MPG :)  My gas hog gets a whopping 13-15 in the city (and that's all I drive really).  Good thing I don't drive much now that I SAH!  But I love my car way to much to think of getting something else.

This :] I'm jealous of your 23 mpg! I have a Ford Expedition, love it, but not filling the tank!

Congrats on the car! I can't wait to be in the market for a new set of wheels...

  • Thanks guys! The gas mileage is a shock for me, since I. Used to my Sonata which gets 33-35mpg!! I can go 500 miles on a tank of gas with that car!! When you commute over 100 miles a day, losing 10 mpg is quite a shock!! Regardless, we love the car so far =)
