Preemies

not unreasonable, right?

My twins were.born at 31 weeks.and.will.be 38w on.sunday. (and have been home for 2 weeks) we have only.left.to.go.to the.ped.to.be weighed. I am.still.adjusting.to life.st home.with preemie.twins +a 21.month.old+a six year old. My IN LAWS.just.bought a.condo.nearby and they.took.dd.and.ds.for.the.weekend. they.want.me.to.come.see.the place.on.sunday (oh, dh.is.out.of.town.so.it.is.just.me), but.i.found.out.that not.only.will.it.be.mil.and.fil,but.another two.sets.of.aunt/uncles who.will.probably.be clamoring.to.hold.babies. Fil.acted.insulted.today when.i.told.him.to.use.sanitizer......i.keep thinking.of.all.the.people.these.other.people.have encountered that may have been harboring.illness and.i.just.don't want.to.twke.them. it.is.not.unreasonable.of.me.to.stay home, right? -----sorry about.all.thr.periods instead.of.spaces.....i am a clumsy typer on the phone)

Re: not unreasonable, right?

  • I don't think its unreasonable at all. This an extremely dangerous time of year for preemies, I'm not sure if you have explained to them how easily an illness can put Lo back in the hospital, but if you have its kinda unreasonable of them to expect you to expose Lo to the potential germs imho. I've made quiet a few people mad this season putting my foot down, but I just cut straight to the point and tell them I'm not risking my child's health and another hospital stay to satisfy them. Just stand you're ground momma, they may not get it, but you're doing what's best for lo.

  • Nope. I would have been even more obnoxious than you. MUCH more. My girls' health this season completely trumps anyone's short term feelings. They will deal, they will get over it. When in doubt, tell them a simple cold would likely land them back in the hospital and could be fatal. Which is also true...and the reason I don't give a crap about petty things like people getting bent out of shape about me telling them to scrub in at my house or use hand sanitizer or use sanitizing wipes on their phone in my home. And, this refers only to my parents, since they're the only ones we're allowing to visit. You are your LOs biggest advocate...everyone else will get over it.

  • Not. At. All !! My mil calls sanitizer "crap" and I finally said "if that sanitizer which takes 20 seconds can save your grandson from the hospital I would t care if it was real crap". She shut up about it!

  • Your in laws would hate me! We've let 3 people visit since we've been home. They have to scrub in and use sanitizer right before holding him. I also wipe down phones with Clorox wipes. The only place ds goes is the dr. Your not being unreasonable at all if they don't like it they can wait til rsv season is over and if they don't want to use sanitizer they can just look :
