It depends how you want it pronounced: 

Evelyn = Eh-vuh-lyn

Evalyn = Ee-vuh-lyn

My friend spelled her dd's name Evalyn and it's always mispronounced as Ee-vuh-lyn.

I always go with traditional or common spellings on names ever since I started in an ER. Too many people make fun of people with uncommon spellings of names and we always wonder if people are just making up names or if they don't know how to spell it.

If I saw Evalyn I would think it was pronounced like Eva + lynn, with a long "E" so I would only use it if that's the pronounciation you're going for.
