Tell me about these carriers I received...

So, I registered for a Moby, but received an Infantino Sling Rider at my shower, and then my sister-in-law gave me a hand-me-down Infantino, which I *think* is the Breathe Vented Carrier (https://www.amazon.com/Infantino-Breathe-Vented-Carrier-Grey/dp/B003I867W6/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ba_3 ), but I'm not sure...

Now looking online, I can't find a listing for the Sling Rider anywhere and it looks like maybe it was recalled? The copyright on the box says 2007, and the recall includes that time period. Sooo, maybe someone re-gifted it to me?

Also, a coworker is selling her old Snugli carrier, which looks like this:

Can anyone give me any info about these carriers? Are any of them a dreaded "crotch dangler?" Should I just order myself a Moby and forget about them? Ugh.

  • I dont know much about those carriers that you mentioned, but its proably a good idea to go and pick up a moby stretchy style wrap.. they are amazing in the beginning.. a snuggli is generally from what i understand the definition of a crotch dangler..  something like an ERGO or a Beco or A Boba, im learning about all of this there are so many.. but the above are more mainstream and sold im most stores..  just an fyi the moby says they are good till 35 lbs.. but by around 15 pounds or so they get a little bouncy and stretch.. but they are indispensible in the early days I found..

  • I would never pay actual money for that old Snugli, looks super uncomfortable. Sell the carriers you received on ebay/craigslist and buy yourself a Moby and a Ergo or Becco. That will take care of your babywearing needs and they are the best. You can likely find these secondhand too

That infantino looks like a crotch dangler to me. You can tell by the fact that baby is not support knee-to-knee...and is facing out. Baby should face mom and be supported knee to knee, with knees at or higher than the butt.

I'd look for an Ergo or other SSC and then look into a woven wrap if wraps interest you - they cost more but 1) are easier to use than the moby (because most are shorter), 2) are cooler, and 3) last through toddlerhood.

What should I look for? Brands?

  • Cash that Slingrider in for a free mei tai!

    https://www.infantino.com/customer-care/recall.cfm

It is the sling of death. You will cut it up, send in a patch, and get a lovely mei tai instead. You can then get rid of all those uncomfortable other carriers.

Yes, this! I was given the sling rider and returned the patch for a terrific mei tai carrier.

  • I love my Infantino Mei Tai. I would definitely recommend getting that and just scrapping the others. We used the Moby as a newborn but we bought it off Craigslist for 15. I don't think I'd buy it new for such a short time span.
