Ugh i need to vent!
A dear friend of mine just was told her 14 month old has the flu she thought she was teething and then thought she had an ear infection she's been running a temp for days but she's not that sick.
The dr gave her tamiflu she gave it to her daughter with out questioning what it is or why. She didn't do any research on it and is wondering why her daughter who she's having a hard time getting to eat or drink is now vomiting! It's a major side effect of the medicine you just gave your kid!! I love this woman like a sister but she drives me nuts sometimes with how laid back she is about doing any research about any thing about parenting. I did some research in tamiflu and decided its bit something I will take or give my family long before anyone was ever sick. I just needed to vent thanks
Re: Tamiflu vent
I'm not saying she shouldn't have given it but I am saying blindly giving something to your child with out asking any questions is not wise.
My LO did have the flu (nasal swab diagnosed) and we caught it within the first 24 hours. Doctor recommended Tamiflu and after my research, I decided that given how sick LO seemed and how bad the flu this season appeared to be, it was worth the risks/side effects. Fortunately LO had no negative side effects from the flu (no vomiting or anything), and was almost back to normal in 3 days and had a much shorter post flu recovery than I expected.
I also have taken Tamiflu in the past myself (got swine flu). It helped a lot for me then too. I didn't get the post-flu pneumonia that a lot of other people got and I recovered within a few days rather than the full week.
In the right situations, it can be worth it.
