SnugRide 30

We got the SnugRide 30 car seat with an extra base.  When installing the bases the "extra base" installed nice and tight, it is actually the SnugRide 35 base, but is compatable. The base that came with car seat does not appear to have a belt tightener or clip of any kind and we cannot get it tight? Anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions? TIA!

Re: SnugRide 30

  • I love the lock offs on the 35 base for this reason. Does the seat belt look like this at the latchplate?

If it does, you need to use the locking clip. See page 14 in the link, it shows where it is stored. Page 32 Image one shows where the locking clip goes. Basically you have to install the base as tightly as possible, mark off on the belt what that is, then unlatch the belt, put the locking clip on, and rebuckle the belt. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/00/00/21/58/03/92/2158039250.pdf

You don't have LATCH anchors in your car then?

  • Loading the player...
  • We do have LATCH but the safest place is in the middle. And we live in the city and parallel park everyday on both sides of the street. So middle it is thanks for all that info I am going to put my husband on it as soon as he gets up!
  • Good luck! Take a look at your vehicle manual too, some don't allow or aren't good fit for a car seat install. Even after all that, if the base isn't tight at the belt path (movement at the other end is expected), you may need an out board install, probably passenger side if you're at the curb a lot. Outboard inst less safe, especially rear facing.
  • That's strange.  We have a Snugride 30 and it comes with a locking clip.  The clip is at the back of the car seat, NOT in the base.  If you look at the Graco manual, page 14 shows a diagram of the back of the car seat and it shows you where the locking clip is stowed.

Uh, that is what I said and linked.

No base on any brand would store the locking clip, however, the Snugride 35 base is equipped with a seatbelt lock off. Not the same thing. It's one reason why I prefer the 35 to the 30.

Here, page 15 shows what a lock off is. https://download.gracobaby.com/ProductInstructionManuals/PD115605A.pdf

    Makes sense?

  • Thanks!  We got it installed nice and tight using the locking clip!  In reading the Car seat owners manual we didn't realize you had to use the locking clip when using the seat with the base. . . but you know how instruction books can be!  The seat is nice and secure, now just waiting for baby to make his/her arrival!

Just to clarify for anyone else reading this... the lock off (which I assume you are using) is completely different than the locking clip.
