Hi,
I am 5 dpiui and just found yesterday I have the MTHFR mutation. Does anyone have experience with this? Before we cycled I was told the results of my RPL were good but it turns out this test just came back. My office is usually so good. In fact one of my nurses called me twice last night because she felt so bad.
Anyway, I have started on extra frolic acid but am concerned that if I do happen to be pregnant that something will be wrong with the baby. I need to stay off of dr google but it looks like this can be linked to downs, spina bifida, etc.
Anyone have any experience?
Re: MTHFR
The main issues w/ MTHFR would be to 1) find out what variation you have, because they vary in terms of significance, 2) get your homocysteine level checked (this relates to folate metabolism and if elevated can be associated with increased clotting risk), 3) talk to your doctor about high dose folic acid or possibly L-methylfolate supplements such as NeevoDHA or Metanx, 4) discuss w/ your doctor if you might benefit from daily low-dose aspirin.
The RE probably won't suggest Lovenox / Heparin if you only have MTHFR and no other coagulation issues, but they may suggest it if you have a history of multiple pregnancy losses.
