xp CD: EC & training pants

Elimination Communication & training pants...

My almost 9 month old has been pooping consistently in the potty for about 3 months now. Pees, however, are a different matter entirely.  Sometimes we might catch 3 or 4 little ones a day, but many days it?s more like one or two. She wears cloth diapers (Charlie Banana OS pockets mostly with microfiber inserts).  We?ve been trying to practice a sort of part-time EC since DD was about 1 month old.  Months 1-4 we would leave her diaper off and under her for about 10 minutes at each diaper change while we stood by her at the changing table.  We would cue her when she went (with ?pssst? sound and ASL sign for toilet).  Month 5 or so we started sitting her on her little potty.  Catching the poops has been wonderful, but I?d really like to catch more pees and try being diaper free.  After watching DD for these 8+ months though, I still cannot tell when she is peeing (unless I hear her going in her potty).  We can?t do naked time really because as soon as her diaper comes off she starts clawing herself except for when she?s sitting on the potty (any others have LOs who claw as soon as the diaper comes off?).  Should I try training pants?  If so, any particular recommendations?  Is she not feeling her pee enough with her pocket diapers?  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: xp CD: EC & training pants

  • i wish they made the blue line disposables in bigger sizes, i swear  we learned the most when we had the tell tale  blue line to help us!   my son is almost 9  months and has had only about 3  poop accidents since he was 5  months old and really those were my fault,  not taking him to the potty.  my husband laughs at me because he  thinks it's funny when i am  shocked that there is a poopy  diaper.     I'd like to work on improving  with wet diapers as well,  my little guy is getting better at peeing a  large quantity versus a  few drops at the potty,  but still has no signal and doesn't seem to care if he is wet.    he had some diaper rash  so i  did some bare bottom time with him on a  towel,  but the only time he would fuss,  is after he peed,  he'd want to roll away,  so maybe i will have to try the training pants,  since it's dangerous to let  him lie on his back,  or sit up,  as pee  can go everywhere!
