sleep training and teething

Ugh! We have tried everything we could Think of for sleeping and we had just gotten thru 3 full nights of CIO last resort last night it took 12 min for her to fall asleep. Well today she is teething really bad. I decided to try to continue CIO but after one visit and 15 min later I gave in. We had already digressed in my opinion..

What did you ladies do during teething?

  • I've been spending lots of time snuggling, co-sleeping, using teething tablets, amber necklaces, cold apple slices, etc. It's all about managing the symptoms and making my daughter feel as comfortable as possible. Teething causes a lot of pain and I know she just needs to know that I'm there for her when she hurts. The more attention and love I show her, the more sleep and smiles I get! It makes it all worth while.

  • We decided to go back to co sleeping as well! She was out in mere seconds lol the only thing we have yet to try are the amber necklaces! And she gets lotsof snuggles all day, she has pretty bad separation anxiety from me.. every ttime I try to step out of a room alone she cries

  • When my LO had a cold and teething at the same time, we laid off on the sleep training and went back to feeding/holding him to sleep and bringing him to bed with us when needed.  It made for a week of awful sleep but as soon as he was better, we went back to the sleep training and he was sleeping great again.  It's expected to have to take breaks on the sleep training, or re-train after a cold or a bout of teething.

  • The sleep easy book I read said when you start training not to do it while they are sick or teething. They need you at that time. Once thats not happening then try.

  • I generally give him a few days of coddling, but Weissbluth and a couple other sources say to continue sleep training during these disturbances. I understand why -- every time I go back to coddling him, I basically have to start the sleep training from scratch. It's kind of stinky.
