I'm a pretty nervous nellie FTM, and even I don't understand the rush to sleep train or freak out over thumb sucking that occurs daily on the 0-3 month board. It seems way to early to stress over.
Maybe all the level headedness (is that a word?) of our board has mellowed me a bit?
I think people who don't believe in paid maternity leave of at least 6 months are just wrong. Women shouldn't have to chose between having a career and raising their child. No day care/nanny etc can replace a parent. If people can get paid to be unemployed they can get paid to have maternity leave. I am Canadian but live in ny since I am the primary bread winner I will be returning to work (next week) after my 12 weeks, it makes me sad that my Canadian relatives get to spend a whole year with their babies and yet people in the usa are like "oh you took 12 weeks? Good for you"

It annoys me when people have overly restrictive diets just because. I get avoiding certain foods due to sensitivities/allergies/etc. and I give a pass to vegetarians (partially because I used to be one...and yes I realize that this makes me a bit of a hypocrite). It just seems like such a first world phenomenon to be able to be so choosy about food. I doubt people in other less affluent parts of the world put so much effort into avoiding gluten, eating a paleo diet, etc. Plus it makes it hard to eat out with people, which I like, dangit!

AMEN! I have a couple of friends who are gluten free and sugar free just because. They both make a big deal out of it and have to have special menus planned if they are going to be present at an event involving food. There are plenty of people in this country and lots of others that would be happy to have food period. Plus if you eat sugar once I'm pretty sure it's not going to kill you, but some of those artificial sweeteners might!
I can't of my own UO right now but I'm sure I have one.
Here's an utterly ridiculous confession of a UO: You know those old English gangster tattoos across the top of the back and on the stomach? I think those are hawt.

I agree completely. I get to enjoy a year with my baby before worrying about what to do work wise.
By 12 weeks most babies aren't STTN and I feel so bad for the moms who are still getting up multiple times a night then still have to function all day. There are days I depend on my nap!
My UO, I don't get why moms worry over every little cold or cough. Too many times I see prescriptions for an antibiotic for a viral infection. It does nothing to help and is causing problems with resistance! I will be waiting to get swabs back before I start any medication for A. Always.
My UO: I don't think iPads/iPhones/portable DVD players are ok to use at restaurants/dinner time as a means to keep your child quiet/busy. I see so many people do this for their children. It makes me so angry! Dinner time is a time to talk and enjoy company; have meaningful conversations with your children!.
I know it is hard to keep little ones busy and calm (I have a very active 18 month old) but seriously, bribe them with distractions?! Not ok.

I am vegan but couldn't agree with you ladies more. I would personally never go into someone's home and expect them to follow my diet guidelines if they do not support them themselves.
My (stupid) UO: Watermelon. I hate it. Always have, probably always will.

I don't know about this board vs that board but I just do not understand neurotic moms. My nephew is 5 months old and bro and SIL are considering a sleep specialist because he only sleeps in his swing. Oh nooooooo!!!
SIL is neurotic and I feel like she "creates" problems with her kid. If she would just chill out, things might go smoothly.

yes yes yes yes yes!!!! so agree!
The boys I nannied wanted to watch movies on the car tv every time we went anywhere, even for ten minutes. I never allowed it, but I know the parents always did so that they wouldnt have to deal with their kids... this after not being with them for ten hours a day. heartbreaking.
guess what? Teaching your child good table manners is hard work! but the rewards of those dinnertime conversations is invaluable.

thank you! I could not agree with you more!
on a related note, my UO is I don't like iPhones. I have no interest in getting one, and will actually be picking up my new galaxy s III tomorrow. Of course, I'm writing this from my iPad, so I'm a total hypocrite...
I'm not a fan of other people telling thier kids that they can hold my baby.... I am all for ME asking the parents if they are comfortable with it (Like "Hey Sally if its OK with your mom you can hold my daughter") but don't tell YOUR kid to go wash their hands so they can hold my baby
I cringe with all the puffy heart references.... I think it goes back to my early 30's when I thought I was cool and my younger GFs were saying it and I thought it made them sound vally girl and I didn't want to be associated with it... but I still don't like it... but I like all of you so please don't hate me or stop replying to things I say...

Aw man, I have a bunch of friends in Canada and I'm so jealous every time they tell me that they get a whole year. My boss only offered me 6 weeks of unpaid leave. I think this is one area the US is awful at. Other countries, especially our neighbor to the North, are much more family focused.

YES. I was a waitress for a long time at busy chain restaurants, and there's nothing worse on a Friday night when you have 10 tables and are on a 40-minute wait to have to wait for a three-year-old to finish his game of Temple Run before he can tell you he wants chicken fingers. And they always want chicken fingers.
My other restaurant-related UO: I don't think it's remotely okay for young children to have pop and fried food, just because you're out to dinner. I've worked in enough of those kitchens to know the way those foods are deep-fried mess with adult digestive systems. I can't imagine what a 1400 calorie meal that is almost exclusively carbs and fat is doing to your two-year-old. I'm not saying never let your child eat out or have fried chicken fingers, just maybe pair them with broccoli and milk instead of Coke and fries.

Re: UO Thursday
I have one SIL gave us, but I seriously think I'm gonna pass on using it.
I think babies look silly sitting in them.

At first glance I thought you said "burrito" not "Bumbo" lol!!

they don't look safe to me.
Oh, I so agree with all of these.
Okay... I have to shop there nowadays for baby... but I very much dislike Target.
