Lurker with a question

I have been lurking on this board for awhile and I have to say I really enjoy reading everyone's questions and advice. I am hoing to get some advice today.
Today I found out I will be travelling for work and will be away from home for 4 days. My DS is BF and this will be the first time I will be away from him for longer than my work day. I am wondering if anyone has had to do this and how did you deal with it? It is going to be so hard to be away from him!
He will be 7 months when I am gone and has been eating solid food once a day for 2 weeks now (He is 5.5 months right now). I guess I am worried about being away from him and if he will adjust well to not being BF at night or at all for those 4 days. I have plenty of milk stashed in the freezer so that is not an issue. Do you think it will be a big adjustment for him or will it not matter? Am I worrying for nothing?

  • I think you need to do a trial run for a couple of nights. If your DH has never fed him overnight, you need to work up to it, because it could be a big adjustment, especially if he's used to nursing to sleep.

  • It will definitely be hardest on you having to be apart from your LO!  I had the same worries when I had to leave for 2.5 days for work.  I wasn't really sure, for example, how much LO actually was taking in when he gets up at around 4 am, so preparing the bottle was a guess.  It helped me feel prepared to write out on a white board how much to put in each bottle, and how much to take out from the freezer stash each night to thaw, not that my husband couldn't figure it out himself.  A trial run isn't a bad idea.  We didn't do that, because I kind of figured what if LO gets upset at a bottle in the middle of the night instead of mommy?  It's not like there was an alternative since I had to go. For us, it wasn't a big adjustment and he did great on just bottles!  And I found out that he actually packs it in at 4 am.
