How long do NSTs take?

The perinatologist spoke with my doctor and has convinced her to have me come in weekly until LO arrives for NSTs. The way it will work out if that I'll go to my OB appointment each Wednesday morning and thenhead across the street for the NST right after. I'm trying to give work an idea of how long that will take every time, but I have no idea. I know how long it takes at my OB's office, but am unsure about NSTs...

Re: How long do NSTs take?

  • It usuualy took 30 min for my NST - but it really depends how active the baby is - bring a snack to eat in between ob and NST - something sugary.  I would leave an hour if with waiting and US when there as well.

  • My first one took almost an hour since baby was so uncooperative...now it usually takes about 20 minutes plus a little more to do vitals and to get the ok from my OB after its done. I do them twice a week and am sooo thankful that I work in the building.
  • I spend 1.5-2 hours per week at the perinatologist, but that's because I have a NST, an u's and I have to meet with the diabetes nurse every time. The NST is usually only about 30 mins, but I've been hooked up for 40 before because DS was asleep and not cooperating.
  • My doctors office quoted an hour for NST's but I have to do them 2 times a week.
