April 2012 Moms

Can't help but feel..

Sad, a little disapointed... My DD has been going to physical therapy for her Torticollis for months now. Originally they stated they were looking to discharge her in March. Last night I asked the therapist about her progress and she told me that she was making "slow progress"-- news to me... She said she believes it will be later then March at this time.... DD goes twice a week, and they are trying to get her to crawl and pull to stand, niether of which DD or DS can do.... I feel like maybe there was more I could do to get them even rocking on all fours or moving on thier tummys.... IDK I guess just typing this out makes me feel a bit better... DH is sad for DD too because she just doesn't like therapy, and the look that she gives us breaks our hearts....

I'm not comparing them to other babies, but when a professional tells you that they "should be doing this, or should be doing that", it has you leaving feel down.... I, like everyone other mother on here, just wants what is best for their children, and I hate to feel like I could have done more...

Anyways, thanks for reading lol... Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

  • That sinks!! Sorry you are feeilng down!!!  I too have had my peditrician tell me that my child was "developmentally delayed" because at his 9 month appointment he couldn't pull up, could only army crawl, and wouldn't grasp food with his finger and thumb.  Its very defeating when a professional tells you that they aren't where they need to be.  Just keep being the best mommy to your LOs that you can be!!! They will get the hang of it :)

  • I think the crawling thing is hogwash. My kid just learned how to crawl less than a week ago. His pedi was never concerned. Sorry you're dealing with this.

My pedi was impressed that LO could do that already at 9 months! This is crazy! There needs to be a more standard "norm" set up. Can the kid support him/herself on their legs with or without assistance? Can the kid sit up? Smile? Babble? Eat? Breathe? Sleep? Good.

  • Was your babies born early? I would be slightly pissed if my pedi suggested that my babies were behind because they were not crawling yet. Each kid does things at their own speed, but crawling, some babies never crawl and they go right to standing and walk. Try not to worry too much. Hang in there!

  • I am so sorry.  lo is just now scooting well and is pulling up sometimes..and pediatrician said it was fine,he doesn't have any teeth either lol. But it will come and we gave lots of tummy time and floor time to work on crawling, its not your fault, and lots of time babies who are physically delayed are better with words or problem solving.  I think she was wrong to tell you what your children should and shouldn't be doing when they are only 9 mos. Old.
  • WOW, as I re-read my initial post I can't believe how many grammatical errors I amade and typos lol! Sorry!

I appreciate all of the feedback, it does make me feel better to know that I am not alone, and to hear again that every baby develops differently. I am so proud of all my babies have accomplished, so it's amazing how one thing like this can put me into such a funk....

  • It's hard not to worry. DS isn't crawling, scoooting, army crawling, pulling up...basically he can roll and that's it. So far the pedi isn't worried but I am. Especially because so many on the board have babies doing so much already. Hang in there Momma. Our kid will catch up.
